The work pays tribute to
Orlando
, the protagonist of Ludovico Ariosto’s masterpiece, reinterpreting the chivalric world of
Orlando Furioso
through the expressive and contemporary language of ceramic art. Proud and solemn, Orlando comes to life in majolica through an extraordinary richness of forms, colours, and details. The figure of the paladin, a symbol of valour, strength, and passion, commands attention with a striking presence, poised between the legacy of Renaissance epic poetry and a free contemporary artistic interpretation. The elaborate headdress, finely decorated armour, sword, and large shield become the focal points of a composition rich in scrollwork, reliefs, and individually modelled ornamental elements. Deep blues, turquoise, reds, yellows, and greens intertwine in a vibrant palette, enhanced by the brilliance of the glazes and the depth of the surfaces. The complexity of the modelling and the meticulous decoration give the sculpture a powerful three-dimensional presence. Light flows across the glazed majolica, highlighting its reliefs, volumes, and intricate details, offering an ever-changing perception of the work depending on the viewing angle. Entirely modelled, finished, glazed and decorated by hand in majolica, the work is the result of a complex artistic process in which every element bears the artist’s individual touch, experience, and sensitivity.
